A. Yes, Mahahual is generally considered safe for visitors. Like most places that you travel to it is important to exercise caution by being aware of your surroundings and taking standard precautions with your belongings and yourself. The town is quiet and laid-back, and the locals are friendly and welcoming.
A. If you are coming from another country (USA, Canada, Europe etc.) to Mexico you will need a passport to enter into Mexico at the airport/border/ you will also need to fill out a visa form before you enter which they will check with your passport at immigration when you arrive in the country.
For cruise passengers stopping in Mahahual, if your cruise starts and ends in the U.S. (a "closed-loop cruise"), a passport may not be required, but it is strongly recommended in case of emergencies or unexpected travel changes.
A. You can buy alcohol in Mahahual at convenience stores, supermarkets, or liquor shops. Selection may be smaller than in big cities, but you’ll find beer, tequila, rum, and other basics. Bringing duty-free from the airport is also an option if you want specific brands. You can also buy tequila and mezcal in some of the artisanal tequila shops, and souvenir stores.
A. Mahahual is very walkable, especially along the beachfront malecón, where most shops, restaurants, and beach clubs are located. The town is small and flat, making it easy to explore on foot. However, if you’re staying farther from the center or heading to more remote beach clubs or eco-resorts, a taxi or bike may be more convenient, especially in the heat or at night.
